Title: Fr. Yves Raguin S.J. on Contemplation, Transformation, and Dialogue
This session of School of Silence highlights the key insights of Fr. Yves Raguin, S.J., (1912-1998), renown sinologist, Buddhologist, theologian, spiritual guide, and the founder of the Ricci Institute in Taipei. He greatly contributed to the research on the Asian spiritual traditions as developed in Taoism, Confucianism, and Buddhism. It will be shown how his encounter with doctrines and practices of East Asian Buddhism shaped his own personal itinerary, broadening his intellectual, cultural, and spiritual horizons. This session will explore how the practice of contemplation may have a decisive impact on personal transformation leading to interreligious dialogue. Raguin recognized in the journey of contemplation and the mantric prayers of silence a privileged bridge for a dialogue with other wisdom traditions, especially with Buddhism.
